History

The Wenlock Branch was built by different companies and eventually allowed trains to run between Wellington and Craven Arms.

The section from Buildwas to Much Wenlock was built by the Wenlock & Severn Junction Railway and opened in 1862. The next section, from Much Wenlock to Presthope, opened in 1864 and was built by the Wenlock Railway Company. The WRC also built the last section from Presthope to Marshfarm Jnc and that opened in 1867.(Jones: 1998)
